Tour Details
Shimshal (3100 M) is the Hunza Valley’s most remote area, bordering China in Gojal, and access to Karakorum Highway at Passu Village by jeep-enabled road.Shimshal’s people are Wakhi and speak Wakhi  language,  with special culture and tradition. Much of their tradition and culture has remained intact  because of the remoteness and challenging accessibility.

The people of Shimshal use each year in the month of May to take their livestock to the  high pastures of the Pamir for gazing from May to October. They take care of their yaks, sheep and goat during these five months gatherin butter, cheese, and yeast for their families during harsh winter season. The majority of their income comes from selling yak, which is very expensive now even selling the goats in the central Hunza region. They are going to the pastures all to-gether and live their for five months with animals. And in October they come down to-gether, on these occassions while going up to the pastures in month of May and coming down in October make festivals called “KUCH”that means travel.
