The district of Ghizer is the northernmost portion of the Northern Areas and thus the country’s extreme north. It borders on the north-west of the Wakhan strip and on the northern boundaries of China. On its west is Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chitral District; and on its east is Gilgit. Diamer District is on its south, again a part of the northern regions. Gakuch is district capital of Ghizer.
The Gupis acted as a border between the valley of Yasin and Phander. It is the central position from all valleys, such as Phandar, Yasin, Poniyal etc. The valley sits among the largest mountain ranges in the country, including the Hindu Kush and Karakarum.
